Lindsay Anderson once said, "Chillicothe just doesn't feel safe anymore."
Chillicothe is located along the Scioto River and has a population of around 22,000. It is known as Tree City USA. Back in 2014, this little town changed forever. It will never be the same.
It started in 2014, when a woman by the name of Charlotte Trego, a mother of two kids and a heroin addict, went missing. She had been evicted from her apartment and doing sex work. Her mother reported her missing.
This was a shock to the town of Chillicothe and just the start.
The second victim was Tameka Lynch and she went missing on May 3rd, 2014. Her body was found three weeks later by some local kayakers. Police told the family that she had died of an overdose. Lynch's family didn't believe that and wondered what the truth really was.
Wanda Lemons was the next victim and she went missing in September 2014. Lemons was planning on traveling with a truck driver to Texas. She was a mom of five children who never would have left her kids behind.
Police seemed stumped.
These victims seemed to have something in common. They were sex workers and addicted to drugs at some point. Police had consumed lots of missing persons' reports but some were not real. Thankfully some turned up alive. Police claimed they did everything they could but one of the victims' husbands was told not to worry about his wife being in danger. He didn't worry until her body was found later with only a pair of socks on her naked, dead body. He had thought he trusted the police but in turn, learned he was being deceived.
The next victim was Shasta Himelrick and she went missing on May 25th. Her pregnant body was found in the Scioto River. The police told her she had committed suicide but her family didn't agree. They thought she was murdered. Again, the conclusion of her death by the Police was not the same as what they thought. They knew their daughter would not commit suicide.
Things were not adding up. These four past victims had been brutally murdered and yet no suspect. People were starting to wonder if they were involved in a sex trafficking ring or if a local serial killer was on the loose.
Again, Police were stumped.
The fifth victim was Tiffany Sayre. She was the mom of a three and six-year-old. Sayre went missing in May of 2015. Her body was found wrapped in a sheet along the creek. Her body was so decomposed that it was hard for police to get clues from the murder scene.
The community was starting to smell the fear and didn't understand why the Police didn't have a suspect.
Lastly, the sixth victim was named Timberly Claytor. Apparently, Claytor had been around two men, with one later becoming a suspect in her murder. His name was Jason McGrary and he was charged with the murder of Claytor.
The story went that she was smoking crack with his accomplice Ernest "Dolla Bill" Moore the Third. after the crack was gone, Claytor had been shot three times.
In September of 2015, Moore turned himself in. He had been a suspect in another crime. Police
were under the impression that Moore could have had information on the five other women who had been murdered. Eventually, Moore was convicted of kidnapping and he was sentenced to ten years in prison.
Police had only one suspect and five other victims' families are still left unanswered. Plenty of books and documentaries have come out on the vanished women but only one arrest. Hopefully, someone will come forward with answers so these families can have closure.
