The year was 1962 and the scene was Penfield, NY. A young, fun-loving, sweet girl by the name of Pamela Moss was walking through the woods of her neighborhood when a Webster landscaper by the name of James Moore was working near her home.
Moss was extremely unlucky when she came across Moore while walking on a trail within a mile of her home. While walking, Moss had crossed paths with Moore and he ended up kidnapping Moss. He allegedly ended up strangling her first and then brutally raping Moss. Her body was found in a wet gravel pit off of Old Penfield Road.
According to Moore, Pamela's last word was, "Please." Moore told Police he had allegedly molested 17 girls in addition to confessing to the murder of Pamela Moss. He was sentenced to life in prison where he had been examined by 35 psychiatrists and completed a sex offender program.
After being known as the longest-serving inmate in a NY prison, Moore was scheduled to go in front of a parole board on June 6, 2022, for the 21st time. Every other time, Moores' previous requests for parole were denied. At the rightful age of 88, Moore was finally released to go free. The Judge said, "There is no other evidence to conclude the applicant will be a danger to the community." Many people in the Rochester area were very nervous about his release but the courts allowed it.
The news of James Moore's release was a shock to a lot of families, especially Pamela's family. People have always questioned our whole judicial system, and knowing that an alleged criminal who confessed to molesting and murdering young girls was able to walk free is unsettling.
Hopefully, Moore is on a tight leash and never puts his hands on another victim again.
