Mysterious Deaths and Disappearances of Oconee County, South Carolina: Part 3

The disappearance of Pamela Faith Roach on February 5, 2019, should have sent a code red to local authorities that an investigation was needed. In a little over a month, two people had disappeared from Oconee County, with another dead on the floor of her workshop on Rock Crusher Road. Unfortunately, this dangerous game of Russian Roulette in Walhalla was far from over. Living a fast, reckless life is like burning a candle from both ends; sooner or later, you will get burned. The next victim from the Oconee County puzzle of deaths and disappearances may have met his fate under mysterious circumstances for knowing too much.

Kevin Kyle Craig lived in a small family compound near West Union. Craig had a history of drug abuse and ran in the same circles as Kevin Maler, aka Boston. Maler moved to the Upstate of South Carolina after serving a lengthy prison sentence in Massachusetts. Additionally, Kevin Maler was also a suspect in the 1989 disappearance case of Jennifer Fay. Fay was only sixteen years old at the time when she vanished from her Brockton home. The case remains unsolved.

Kevin Craig was different than all of the other victims on our list in one aspect- he never served a prison sentence. Craig’s brother spoke with him on Friday, May 24, 2019, when Kevin Craig locked himself in a room inside his mobile home due to drug withdrawals. Kevin Maler and two others visited the property later that evening. One of Kevin Craig’s family members saw the trio and approached them. One asked if they could play a game of horseshoes while Maler and the female allegedly ventured off for a little rendezvous, but somehow, Kevin Maler ended up in Kevin Craig’s mobile home.

On Saturday, Maler and another gentleman revisited the Craig property. Kevin Maler went inside Craig’s mobile home. He told a family member of Craig’s that he had to use the restroom but could not find Kevin Craig inside. Oddly enough, the pair would visit the property yet again on Sunday, May 26, 2019, before Kevin Craig was found deceased later that day while barricaded in his room. Syringes found at the scene were close to his body.

Kevin Craig’s cause of death showed seizures and heat exposure as the main factors. Furthermore, Kevin Craig had no drugs in his system at the time of his death. He was just thirty-two years old. No charges were filed in the case in 2019. Those would come three years later.
