“I feel something closed in on me right now.”
“I felt it right there in your spot, where you’re standing.”
I looked at my cameraman in disbelief. He had been feeling sick since arriving and I made sure to keep a mental note on his condition. I had my equipment in hand, doing an EMF sweep halfway across the bridge by the time we switched places. Whatever this thing was, it felt like it was hiding itself in the darkness, just out of range of my meter.
They said it was a paranormal hotspot, and this was the second location I had the chance to investigate - Poinsett Bridge in Greenville, SC. Apparitions are rare, but that wasn’t what we were looking for. We wanted to stay outcome-independent. But still. Zero energy readings. Zero spikes. Not even a single flicker.
Damnit.
Spirits are pure energy (in theory) - you can measure energy. You can’t measure feelings. If the spirit was refusing to show itself that’s one thing. But hiding in the dark? That’s different. After crossing the bridge we made our way back to the other side where there was a stone marker. The battery of the camera died, so I pulled out my phone to commence recording. Suddenly, my cameraman noticed something in the trees. “I saw a face. It looked demonic to me,” he said.
I started to command the general vicinity ahead of me to reveal itself, asking, “Are you of God?” My partner, nervous and still feeling sick, had trouble keeping his flashlight still. As the light shined in front of my phone’s camera, nothing. Then it would sway the other direction, away from the camera, only revealing the little red light on my EMF meter. Nothing. No flickering. No buzzing. No energy readings.
But something else happened.
From what little I could see through my phone’s camera, I noticed what was in my shot started to blur for just a second - maybe longer.
“Okay.. okay... That was weird,” I said, taking into account what I just witnessed. I had many more of these in later ghost hunts, but this was my first one. Spirits and technology don’t mix. It’s like trying to put oil and water together. It isn’t happening. When a camera loses focus, it’s believed the spirit is in the shot - and that the camera simply cannot focus in on it. As I explained this to my partner, I noticed that he didn’t look so good.
“What’s up?” I asked.
“This is just weird,” he replied.
The flashlight continued to sway on and off camera, adding quite a dramatic effect.
“I’m getting all kinds of weird feelings,” he added.
“Yeah.. let’s get out of here,” I said.
“I feel like something’s walking through me.”
Jesus. Did this thing just walk past my camera and then choose to attack my partner?
“You do feel like something’s walking through you?” I quickly asked, making sure I heard him right.
“Yeah... I feel like something’s trying to take control.”
“Let’s get out of here.
