Sheila Keen-Warren finally pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the 1990 killing of Marlene Warren of West Palm Beach, Florida, but she denies committing the crime. She was arrested 27 years after the murder.
Warren was shot in the face by someone dressed as a clown after opening her front door. The clown was holding 2 balloons and some flowers when the clown pulled a gun out. Warren's son and friends were eating breakfast inside while the incident took place.
Warren's husband, Michael Warren, later remarried Sheila Keen, who became Sheila Keen-Warren. Authorities long suspected Keen-Warren, but did not have enough evidence. In 2014, there was a major break in the case, and detectives of Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office cold case unit were able to strengthen their case with DNA. One of her hairs was found in the clown's getaway car, but Keen-Warren denies it.
Sheila Keen-Warren and Michael Warren denied having an affair, but married in 2002, 12 years after Marlene's murder. Keen-Warren was an employee of Michael Warren's used car lot at the time of the murder. Later, the Warren's moved to Virginia and opened a restaurant.
State Attorney for Palm Beach County Dave Aronberg said:
“After years of professing her innocence, Sheila Keen Warren has finally been forced to admit that she was the one who dressed as a clown and took the life of an innocent victim."
Keen-Warren was sentenced to 12 years in prison as part of her plea deal with credit for time served.
